"We're mailing this rejection because we couldn't meet you in person to punch you in the nose."
- I think that you have to believe in your destiny; that you will succeed, you will meet a lot of rejection and it is not always a straight path, there will be detours - so enjoy the view.
- I tell writers to keep reading, reading, reading. Read widely and deeply. And I tell them not to give up even after getting rejection letters. And only write what you love.
- I discovered that rejections are not altogether a bad thing. They teach a writer to rely on his own judgment and to say in his heart of hearts, "To hell with you”.
- The vital point to remember is that the swine who just sent your pearl of a story back with nothing but a coffee-stain and a printed rejection slip can be wrong. You cannot take it for granted that he is wrong, but you have an all-important margin of hope that might be enough to keep you going.
- Practice, practice, practice until you eventually get numb on rejections.
- There are two wrong reactions to a rejection slip: deciding it's a final judgment on your story and/or talent, and deciding it's no judgment on your story and/or talent.
- What is needed is a site that bypasses these idiots that send out rejection letters! Authors - it is time to take back control in the way that bands fought back against parasite music publishers and distributors.
Anybody can become a writer, but the trick is to STAY a writer. - Harlan Ellison
